Cellebrite vs Axiom

Cellebrite Logo

Our examiners use Cellebrite, as it is the industry leader in cell phone forensics. It supports over 10,000 devices, is trusted by over 6,700 federal, state, and local public safety agencies, and is used in millions of cases each year. Therefore, the Cellebrite System is our standard in acquiring and processing mobile devices and delivering Cellebrite UFED reports to clients.

At United States Forensics our team can offer an additional service to process the data collected from the device with Axiom Forensics for deeper analysis and create a Portable Case Report which has an easier user interface for clients. Axiom can enhance the acquisition and report service since this tool provides better support for non-native 3rd party apps, keyword search and timeline capabilities. We can help with a remote session for either product.

Frequently Asked Questions

A remote acquisition requires a Windows PC system with at least 8Gb Ram and sufficient drive storage to hold three times that of the mobile device total size. A minimum of a 100mbs internet connection is recommended. USF will send you the Cellebrite software to be installed prior to the event. Our technical support team member will remotely connect to your PC and enable the software. Webcam photos will be obtained of the cell phone and you will be walked through the Device Settings that need to be enabled. The Cellebrite System will be used to acquire and process the data, then a Cellebrite Report will be created for your review. Contact your case manager to determine if this option is available for your device and if it is appropriate for your case.

Data recovery is a process that enables you to recover or restore deleted, corrupted, or damaged data from a cell phone or other digital devices. This process is not always guaranteed, which is why United States Forensics offers a free evaluation stage to determine if data can be pulled from the phone.

Mobile device forensics is a branch of digital forensics that focuses on the acquisition and analysis of data from cell phones. However, it can also relate to any device that has an internal memory and communication capability. Examples include GPS devices and tablets.

Mobile devices can hold a plethora of data, such as, texts messages, internet search history, call logs, and location data; making them a valuable source of evidence in a case.

A forensic “image” is an exact, read only copy of any digital media created by using expert software. It is a bit-by-bit copy that includes all files, folders, and unallocated space. Forensic examinations are only preformed on the image copy, which is necessary to yield legally admissible evidence.

The initial evaluation phase typically takes 1-2 business day. This is to determine what how much data the phone contains and how much of it can be extracted. Cell phones containing large amounts of data usually take longer to extract and process. The processing phase can also take 1-2 days depending on the data amount. All together your mobile device case would take 2-4 days.

Firstly, you will want to talk to an USF client services team member for a consultation. You will receive an evaluation form where you should provide any pins, passcodes, and relevant user ID information. Next, you will put your phone into airplane mode and power it down, so that the phone doesn’t collect more data. Lastly, you should securely package the phone before shipping to the address USF will provide.
